Directed by renowned documentary filmmaker Morgan Neville and produced by Gil Friesen, 20 Feet From Stardom is a documentary centred around the life and times of some of the world’s biggest backing singers. Amongst those featured are the likes of Darlene Love, Judith Hill and Lisa Fischer. Inevitably the One Direction: This Is Us is so far the most successful documentary film of the year, but 20 Feet From Stardom follows very closely behind and that is no mean feat.
The film premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival back in January and since then has received accliaim from both industry professionals, the press and the music industry that it derives from.
20 Feet From Stardom turns the traditional music hierarchy on its head with the likes of Mick Jagger and Sting talking animatedly about the talents of the background divas that have supported them for so many years. It delves back to the Dream Girls era of the 50s and 60s, talking candidly to the hard working personalities that have graced more stages than most of the mainstream artists making up the top 40 today.
