V&A Ballgowns: British Glamour

May 17, 2012

Erdem AW08

Next Saturday the Victoria and Albert Museum welcomes its long-anticipated Ballgowns: British Glamour Since 1950 exhibition. Showcasing designs by Alexander McQueen, Erdem, and Giles (to name a few) there will be over 60 British-designed gowns on display dating back to the Fifties, all of which have been worn by royalty such as The Queen Mother and The Princess of Wales as well as the Hollywood elite; Sandra Bullock, Elizabeth Hurley, and Beyoncé. Created for and worn to events like the British Fashion Awards, Golden Globes, and various film premiers, the dresses are sure to take your breath away.

Curator Oriole Cullen took great care to pick gowns that would “exemplify their periods and look stunning on display.” It’s not just the fashion that will be on display, but detailed stories behind the fashion, from the wearers to the occasions associated with the gowns, all will be highlighted  in order to give a behind-the-scenes look at the intricately-detailed ballgowns.

Come and be captured by the whimsical fashion on display at the V&A starting 19 May to 6 January 2013 with an admission fee of £10. For tickets and more info head to www.vam.ac.uk
