I actually tried to stay away from Victoria Beckham make up because I knew she would hook me in, manipulate me with her words of empowerment and really make you believe that her lip colour or eye colour could change your life. Because it can make you feel sexy and confident. On her site she says how she loves to make women feel like the best version of themselves. I know Victoria a little bit and I know being the best version of herself is not something that she does arrogantly. She does it with a lot of thought.
When I heard that Victoria Beckham compacts in limited edition were exchanging on Ebay for up to £100 I had to have a look and of course I wanted the VV light box containing just as few curated essentials for £850. Of course it would look good on anyone’s dressing table. It’s black, shiny, sexy. Of course I wanted her Morning Aura, a mixture of dewiness and tint that makes you look well rested without a wink of sleep. Of course I want to buy into that. I wanted the gold flecked shadow as well. She calls it eye ink. A pressed gel cream formula with a dense, almost black pigment but it’s somehow crushed with pearls. And there’s another one that’s in Bitter Clove which is a fabulous golden colour. People talk about the eye pencils from the range as if they are the ultimate in eye wear.
What I particularly like about the collection is that it’s curated. It’s all about the curated collection. Someone else has done the hard work and matched shade of skin with shade of now so that it’s edgy but wearable. That’s really hard.
I’ve also been overwhelmed at beautiful make up counters because I simply don’t know what to choose. I like the way if you’re going for a lipstick it’s going to be Nude Spice. The Nude Spice in its ridged black case that clicks shut just like it used to do when you played with your mothers Estee Lauder make up is the most perfect shade of nude. It’s not just nude that stands for neutral, it works day to night. That stands for inconspicuous. It’s statement Nude. You put on this lips like you put on a designer shoe. You feel this colour and it helps you walk better. The coverage is intense. It’s like your lips have their own little outfit. It’s the ultimate Nude. It makes itself known. It’s an announcement of here are lips. It does something very clever. It seems to increase the pout and flesh of your lips. You feel a bit like Victoria herself wearing it. It’s the last thing you’d expect from don’t mind me, I’m just throwing on my inconspicuous Nude lipstick. I also love the way it feels on the lips. It’s not the least bit drying.
Also new for summer is bronzer Saffron Sun. It has a kind of sheerness but also glowiness at the same time. It’s perfect for cheekbone defining or all over sun drenched. And yes when you define your cheeks you feel very such a little bit Victoria. That’s why she has a make-up range. You buy into her. It’s every bit as good as I hoped.
