Pilates is known for building core strength and flexibility all while keeping the muscles and body lean. If you look at those actresses in LA who have beautifully toned bodies, you can bet they got them from a Reformer workout, as well as a mega healthy diet! Look at Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Anniston, Sofia Vergara they are all regulars on that magic bed with springs.
Reformer Pilates is the fitness class you should add to your week if you want to look long and lean, some people have even grown in height after doing it regularly.
Belinda Carlisle has said, “I do Pilates four or five times a week. The benefits are subtle, but it increases your flexibility and really tones you up. It also straightens your spine and improves your posture. In the past eight years, I’ve grown more than two and a half inches (6cm). I am 5ft 7ins (1.70m) and I am very pleased with that.”
Reformer beds regulate the amount of tension and resistance on the body, so even though it might look frightening, the bed is helpful in monitoring the strain you are putting your body through. If you are injured or have a limited range of motion, the reformer’s many attachments allow you to modify the exercises. I have found that my Pilates classes are helping an injured shoulder more than physio, I try to do 2/3 classes a week and I have noticed a difference to my body in a short space of time. I love the classes at Good Vibes, their teachers are excellent for all levels of ability and accommodate all our aches and pains very patiently.
“I’m a Pilates person. It’s great. I had a hip problem. I had a chronic back, a pinched nerve and a hip problem and it’s completely solved all of it. I love it. It makes me feel like I’m taller.” says Jennifer Anniston
Depending what you are are looking for you can have an amazing stretch or more challenging workout just by using the springs for different resistance. The pulleys and springs can increase the body’s strength, endurance, and use its full range of motion. Because of this, you’ll likely be able to see the results of the workouts in your arms, legs, and abdominal muscles sooner as well.
Reformer Pilates may look challenging with all of the cables, bars, straps, and pulleys, but it is a great way to get in your full body workout and the perfect balance if you are someone like me who loves spin classes or lifts weights.
