I have developed an addiction to Tom Ford eye wear, and by that I don’t just mean the sunglasses. The colour shadows are extraordinarily beautiful. I love the fact that most of them have a built-in smoky shimmer, and they stay on all day. I love the smell. I’m sure Tom Ford doesn’t put perfume in the eye shadow, but somehow there’s an in-built exquisiteness, the smell of a smoky eye.
It wasn’t long before I tried the pencil, which comes with its own pretty little pencil sharpener. The kohl pencil goes on rich and easy. It glides across the skin, and it stays on forever.
The new product of Tom Ford’s that I really cannot live without is the mascara. Called simply Tom Ford Ultra Length Mascara (£34.00).
I was almost going to ignore it. Finding mascara has been a painful holy grail quest for me. My eyelashes are so thin. The weight of thick mascara is impossible. It just falls off.
I have been happy with my YSL. It is shiny, lengthening, it stays on, and after about two weeks it dries up. I found myself buying it in bulk, which is a ridiculous thing to do for an expensive mascara.
Planning trips over which duty free stores carried YSL seemed to be just a little obsessive, so I tried the Tom Ford one. It didn’t make any of the great claims about advanced mascara technology that you normally find. It said it was super lengthening and super long wearing and formulated to resist high temperature and humidity.
I bought it at Heathrow before boarding a flight to LA. Twelve hours later it was still on, still shiny black, and still lengthening. I proceeded cautiously to fall more in love with it every day.
One month later it has not dried up and it is as luxuriant as the first time I tried it. The colour of my mascara is Ultra Raven and that’s exactly what it feels like – glossy feathers lengthening the eyelashes.
