Marc Jacobs shared the first image from his Spring/Summer 2016 campaign via his Instagram page; starring director Lana Wachowski followed by comedian/actress Sandra Bernhard. As he introduced the season’s ad campaign it is clear he has taken a personal approach and the series of images have been inspired by the people who have made a mark in his life. He describes it as a “diary of people who have and continue to inspire me and open my mind to different ways of seeing and thinking“.

The third image from the campaign is Bette Midler which Marc Jacobs speaks very fondly of. In his long and personal post on his social media account; Jacobs calls Midler his hero and what a privilege it is to know her. He talks about his earliest memory of the star, at the age of just 9 years old, when he heard her performances and how he instantly grew a love for her music.
“I was curious and excited by her energy, power and the exuberance in her voice and bold, brassy glamour. To this day, I still credit Bette Midler (unbeknownst to her) with a large part of my foray into fashion design.” Jacobs wrote.
We are glad to see Bette Midler looking so fabulous with her curly tresses and posing in true Midler style to portray her lively character; “To her beauty, her brass, her glamour. To that energy, vitality, verve, nerve and curve… I’m so happy to share this beautiful portrait by David Sims. Ladies and Gentleman, the Divine Miss M!”
The SS16 ad campaign was photographed by David Sims and styled by Katie Grand. Jacobs chose the faces of this campaign for their individuality and style, and for the message they express together; “Collectively, they embody and celebrate the spirit and beauty of equality.“
