Everyone needs a little bit of a pick-me-up (or in some cases a haul-me-up) in the morning. But if you’re not a coffee girl, then it’s a little hard to come by! That’s until you factor matcha into the equation. This powerful fine green powder packs a serious anti-oxidant punch.

One cup of matcha is equivalent to 10 cups of green tea in terms of anti-oxidant and nutrient value, because you ingest the whole leaf, not just the water that brews it. It is proven to give you a good boost of energy throughout the day, in some studies those who drank it saw a 24% increase in their physical endurance! It also gives your metabolism a kick up the bum and aids fat burning. If this isn’t a personal trainer in a drink, I don’t know what is.

With that in mind, here’s my recipe for a cheeky morning shake, that’s far less indulgent than it tastes:

You’ll need…
1/2 tsp – 1 tsp matcha green tea powder – we love Teapigs Matcha Green Tea (£25.00)
Almond milk
Ice
Agave to taste

Blend together in your smoothie maker, pulsing towards the end, until the powder is no longer visible, the shake is a smooth green, and the ice is blended through. Serve and drink!

Top tip/ Add avocado to intensify the creaminess!
