INTERVIEW: JO PAVEY’S #MY8HOURS

May 21, 2015

Jo Pavey's #My8Hours.
Jo Pavey’s #My8Hours.

To celebrate their famous Eight Hour Cream, Elizabeth Arden have teamed up with some seriously inspirational women to give us all an insight into eight hours of their life. The hashtag #My8Hours opens the door to these exclusive snippets, and you can use it to share your own.

One of Elizabeth Arden’s specially selected women is Jo Pavey, the renowned Olympic athlete who won gold at the 2014 European Championships and bronze at the Commonwealth Games. Oh and that was just 11 months after giving birth to her second child. Just so you know. Did someone say Super Woman?! No wonder this lady bagged BBC Sports Action Woman of the Year and Sports Personality of the Year.

You can watch Jo’s 8 hours here, and read her #My8Hours interview below.

What drew you to the campaign and why did you decide to take part in #My8Hours?
I love the products and I thought it was such a unique idea to actually capture my eight hours. I’m really interested to see how my day differs from other women’s.

What was captured within your 8 hours that encapsulates your lifestyle the most? Would you say this was indicative of your normal day?
The 8 hour footage captured how I fit in training around being a busy mum and this is definitely indicative of a normal day for me. I feel like I spend my days running, I usually train twice a day and then spend the rest of the day running after the children.

In a short sentence, how would you describe your #My8Hour experience?
I have really enjoyed the #My8Hour experience, and it was such fun to capture a day, it made me realize how busy I was.

If you were given an extra hour in the day, how would you spend it?
If I had an extra hour in the day I would definitely spend more quality time with the kids. I would be playing in the garden or playing games with them, making sure they were having as much fun as possible.

What would be your perfect 8 hours?
My perfect 8 hours would be spent having a day at the beach with my husband and kids in nice sunny weather. I would run into the waves and build lots of sandcastles. Then the day would end with us all going out for a lovely meal in the evening.

Who introduced you to Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant? When and where were you when you discovered it?
I was introduced to Eight Hour Cream by a friend who swore by it for everything from blisters after running to chapped lips from the cold weather. Then I went straight into the department store to buy some. I couldn’t wait to get home to try it out.

What’s your best Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant beauty secret?
My Eight Hour Cream beauty secret is to always use it on flights. I often have to travel to races by flying and always pack it in the flight bag. It stops my skin from getting dehydrated.

Why are you a fan of the Eight Hour Cream/range? How long have you been a fan?
I’m a fan of the Eight Hour Cream range because I love the way the products have a luxury quality feel on my skin, they cover all my skin care needs, they protect as well as soothe and moisturise.

Which product do you most use within the Eight Hour range? Why is this?
I the product I use the most is the Eight Hour Cream Sun Defense for Face SPF 50. I’m outdoors so much with my training so it’s important to protect my face.

Who has inspired your career and driven you to achieve what you have?
I am lucky enough to live with the person who has inspired and driven me in my career. My husband who is also my coach, he has always supported and encouraged me.

What has been your career highlight?
My career highlight has to be winning gold at the 2014 European championships! I had been trying to win a gold medal for so many years, so I never thought that I would win when I was over the age of 40 – especially being a busy mum at the time and just coming back from having a baby.

What strong women do you find inspirational? Who are you most inspired by?
I find women such as Aung San Suu Leyi are so inspirational. To sacrifice themselves for democracy and to fight for their beliefs is incredibly strong. In my sport and career I find women such as Lis Mc Colgan, Ingrid Kristiansen, Kelly Holmes, and Paula Radcliffe the most inspirational women.

If you could pass on one skincare tip to your fans, what would it be?
My one skincare tip to pass on would be to take the time to massage in your night moisturiser – it makes it feel so much more hydrating. I really noticed that difference in my skin when I started doing this.

What is the best make-up tip you have ever received and how did you discover it?
The best make-up tip I have is to always try your foundation in natural light. I discovered this after buying the same foundation colour I had when I was younger and then caught a glimpse of myself in the light one day and realized it was completely the wrong colour for me. I then had to throw it all away.

Please talk us through your top 8 must have products in your make-up bag, and why they are your favourite?

– Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant. An all round protector and moisturizer that is both useful and diverse.
– The Boots No7 Natural Blush in Honey. I love this blush, it gives a nice natural healthy glow.
– Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Body Lotion. This is such a fantastic body moisturiser that feels so luxurious on the skin and has a lovely fragrance.
– Clinique Liquid Facial Soap Mild. This is a great face cleanser that makes your face feel so clean and refreshed without leaving any tight feeling.
– L’Oreal Revitalift Laser Renew Precision Eye. A great anti ageing product that targets the eye area.
– Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Hand Cream. Such a small dab of this cream is needed to make my hands feel soft and smooth, I especially need it to sooth my hands after training during the winter months.
– St. Ives Fresh Skin Apricot Scrub. I love the way my face feels after using this scrub, it feels as though I have given my face
a deep down clean, and gives me a glowing feeling.
– Eight Hour Cream Sun Defense For Face SPF50. I would use it before I apply my make up so that my face is well protected.

For 8 weeks, from May 11th to July 5th 2015, join Eight Hour® Cream and celebrate women today by capturing the
