KEEPING PEARLY WHITES PEARLY WHITE

It’s no secret that everyone desires a pearly-white smile, but sometimes pesky little things like red wine, coffee, tea, and the stains they leave get in the way.  Not to mention the ridiculous price tag of professional whitening, as well as its damaging effects over time.  But never fear, because we’ve got some less pricey, easy solutions that will make dull smiles radiant in no time.

Probably the easiest, most effective way to achieve whiter teeth on a budget is to simply change your toothpaste.  Janina Ultrawhite Sensitive Whitening Toothpaste (£11.25) contains a clinically proven, whitening-patented Bromaine Complex.  Sounds quite fancy, but basically what it means is that the paste safely whitens without damaging effects and abrasion.  On top of all that, it still does what your traditional toothpaste does to prevent plaque and cavities.

Another simple step you could add to your morning and evening routines is Listerine’s Stay White Mouthwash (£4.60).  Although probably not the most glamorous of products, mouthwash has proven in studies to be truly effective at preventing stains and whitening teeth, while keeping the rest of your mouth nice and healthy.  Not to mention, it keeps breath fresher, longer than just toothpaste alone.

Although a tad pricey, switching your toothbrush to an electric one will pay off in the long run.  The Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Black HX9352 Rechargeable Toothbrush (£125.00)  claims to remove 100% more plaque from teeth with its diamond-shaped brush, and make for visibly whiter teeth in just one week.  Plus, it’s probably the most stylish toothbrush we’ve ever seen.

It may surprise you how dramatically different your smile can look by just changing your lip color.  While nudes tend to make teeth look more yellow, red hues with blue undertones make teeth look shades whiter, instantly.  A tried and true favorite of makeup artists and beauty aficionados alike, MAC’s Ruby Woo Lipstick (£15.50) is a cherry red confidence-boosting little pick-me-up that brightens up your whole face, not to mention your smile.

If a bright, pigmented red is too adventurous for you, try a berry-colored gloss or balm, as orangey, or coral-tinted shades typically cause teeth to look more yellow.  The cool undertones in berry colors counteract subtle yellowing, while also bringing a lovely, subtle tint to lips.  Try YSL’s Volupté Sheer Candy Sheer Nourishing Lipstick in Luscious Cherry (£25.00), which has just the right amount of color, and a smooth, balmy texture.
