LFW STREET STYLE

February 23, 2016

By Alyssa Boddicker

Wondering why the streets of London have looked a lot brighter this past week? London Fashion Week is here and with it, the loud and adventurous street style that gives us major fashion inspiration for the upcoming seasons. We spotted some of the biggest trends in street style fashion and got them together here – to fill you in on exactly how to pull them off…

Bright Jackets

Bright colors were a nice change of pace on the London streets.

Plaid, patterned, and pink- the jackets on the streets of London this past week have been quite a sight. Gone are the dreary dark jackets of London’s past and enter a breathe of fresh fashion air that is sure to brighten up London’s gloomiest days. All types of patterns coated the  bright jackets of trendsetters this Fashion Week. Some of the most popular patterns were stripes, checks, and florals. Not feeling like you want to go for patterns and color? No problem. Bold, solid colored jackets are a perfect way to brighten up your wardrobe for spring and are easier to pair with neutral, or bright outfits underneath. Which look will you go for?

Big Volume

All types of volume was found in the ensembles of London Fashion Week.

Big volume, be it in the form of chunky knits, large necklines, flared pants, or even the whole ensemble, were all over the streets of London Fashion Week. What we loved about all of these looks is that even though they were large and in charge, each ensemble was still very flattering. The trick to pulling off big clothing is to target the areas you want to volumize and which you want to bring in. For the side looks, the waist was brought in through high-waisted pants or a belt to add a focus point to the outfit that accentuated the waist while still making the outfit voluminous. A large neckline top can be easily contrasted with some skinny jeans to balance the volume, where as flare pants can be countered with a slender, straight lined jacket. We are eager to try out this balancing act for ourselves…

Loafers

Loafers, big, small, bright and basic filled the London streets for Fashion Week.

Not just your dad’s shoes any more, loafers are THE shoes of the season. Loafers in any kind from heels to flats, from chrome to neutral, all were the shoe of choice this London Fashion Week. The most adventurous of the looks, socks with slip ons (we can hear your mothers gasping in horror), were also a huge trend of fashionistas everywhere. The trick to not looking completely silly while attempting to pull off this trend is picking the right sock. As you can see from above, a thinner, sleek sock is the best choice. To add a bit more flare, metallic socks or sheer black socks add a trendy twist to the look. Are you ready to take on this trend?

Punk

The British Punk influence is still alive and thriving at London Fashion Week.

Britain’s punk scene is back in a big way this Fashion Week. From the more understated inspiration like a leather jacket over the shoulders seen with our trendsetter on the right, to the full on jacket, boots, and heavy skirt ensemble, punk inspiration was everywhere. What we spotted this season that we thought was quite different and original was leather layering. As you can see by the look on the left, leather does not have to be the top layer of any punk look. Her cozy cream jacket adds a delicate touch to an otherwise edgy outfit. Mixing textures like the two fashion BFF’s in the middle image is also a great way to bring punk fashion into the modern age. Chiffon skirts mixed with heavy boots and leather jackets are a fun and flirty way to add a feminine touch to an otherwise harsh look.
