It’s based on the true story of a girl who was brought to England as the illegitimate mixed race daughter of a Royal Navy Admiral. She caused a stir amongst his family, as well as the society they were a part of. The story follows her life as an almost-outsider and her relationship with a man who is able to see past the social conventions of the time. Starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Dido Belle, Tom Felton, Matthew Goode and James Norton, this is the must-see period film of Spring.
