We love a movie based on a true story. When it’s a good heartwarming one like this, that is. Million Dollar Arm is a sports movie, and we’re a sucker for those too, especially when they star a certain Jon Hamm.
Hamm plays US sports agent JB Bernstein, who comes under the pressure of a failing business. He has a lightbulb moment when he spots the bowling potential of Indian cricketers, and travels to the bustling country to find himself some money-making baseball potential. There he sets up a national contest called ‘The Million Dollar Arm’ and discovers a couple of 18 year olds that he knows will make it big in the game.

Rinku (Suraj Sharma – of Life of Pi fame) and Dinesh (Slumdog Millionaire‘s Madhur Mittal) leave their small town villages and follow him to LA. Comedy ensues as they become used to their new surroundings. Their learning curve is as great as the one that Bernstein must take as he learns that money isn’t everything and that love and relationships can bring him just as much happiness.
Lake Bell stars as Bernstein’s love interest, and the voice of reason throughout the film’s commentary. Allen Arkin, Bill Paxton and Aasif Mandvi also star in this feel-good-film directed by Craig Gillespie.
From Walt Disney Pictures, Million Dollar Arm is released in cinemas on 29th August.
