Undoubtedly an impressively long career in Hollywood, Michael Shannon has got an impressive filmography. He’s starred in critically acclaimed films such as Revolutionary Road, Freeheld, and 99 Homes, as well as had a significant role in television series Boardwalk Empire.
There is no signs of slowing down for Shannon, as he takes on one of his biggest roles as Elvis Presley in the upcoming comedy-drama Elvis & Nixon. Shannon described the experience of agreeing to take on the role of Elvis as “terrifying.” No need to worry though, as already the praise for Shannon’s performance has been trickling in.
Shannon’s interest in acting sparked at a young age when he joined a speech team at school. He perfected his acting technique with award winning playwright Tracy Letts. He is often noted for having a very distinctive look that is makes it impossible for him to go unnoticed in a film, which caused for some tricky costume and makeup to make him passable as Presley.
On acting, Shannon has shared that he believes one thing that might surprise people about him is that he is very obedient, and he thinks of being an actor “like a dog.” For him, acting is more of a “service industry” than a form of “self-expression” as you are saying other people’s words and performing them how someone else tells you to do it. He has often been featured in Jack Nicholson movies, even if it is just for once scene.
He has been with girlfriend Kate Arrington for years, and together they have two daughters. He describes fatherhood as being “out of his league” and a “great responsibility” that he has been honored to take on.
