With the 2016 Olympics being held in Brazil this year, this theme is guaranteed to be BIG over the next few summer months and needless to say a Brazilian or carnival atmosphere makes for a great celebration. The Brazilians really do know how to throw a party in true colourful, festive style – with lots of energy and plenty of colour. So here’s a few top tips for hosting a Brazilian themed event this summer…
FOOD/DRINK:
Of course, Brazil is well known for its exotic cuisine and so this is an important feature of any Rio Olympic event. Watching the opening ceremony with a traditional meal or smaller taster dishes, will be sure to leave everyones taste buds bursting with flavour. Be adventurous and mix up a Caipirinhas for you and your guests to drink. It’s similar to a Mojito’s, but instead contains Cachaça (a Brazilian rum) which can be ordered online! Take a look at Jamie Oliver’s recipe here.
DECOR:
Getting people into the spirit is helped by setting the scene for your guests. Simply cover your home in colours, the traditional yellow, blue and green of the Brazilian flag, but you could also incorporate reds, purples and orange (or any bright, vibrant colour for that matter). You could also use props of palm trees, bunting, Brazilian flags, feathers, glitter, fruit and bright colours flowers.
Check out Party Pieces website for Rio Inspired decorations to complete your party.
DRESS CODE:
To make your event as authentic as possible, try and encourage your guests to get into the spirit with a themed dress code. If your guests aren’t too keen to on full costume, encourage them to make and wear their own colourful carnival masks.
Whether it’s gathering around the TV to watch the spectacle of the opening ceremony or cheering on your favourite athletes in the races get into the olympic spirit with all your family and friends this summer.
